Lighthouse Notes

This 55-foot tower was built in 1914 at the entrance of Hampton Roads, after 2 previous corkscrew lighthouses had been destroyed in various incidents. The burnt wrought iron remains of its predecessor can still be seen today. The light was automated in 1964 and sends a white light every 2 1/2 second to warn ships of shallow waters.
