Lighthouse Notes

This 52-foot caisson foundation lighthouse was posiitioned in 1894. Now automated, the Wolf Trap Light continues to flash its white light every 15 seconds. The names comes from the H.M.S Wolfe, a 350-ton merchant ship commissioned by the Royal Navy in 1690. It's mission was to join a convoy of ships. After making its way up the Chesapeake Bay, the ship ran aground on the unmarked shoal. Thus the shoal was given the name "Wolf Trap".
